Wesley the lone Wallaceburg candidate so far

vote_ballot_paperWith the 2014 municipal election still eight months away, the campaign pace hasn’t exactly taken off.

In Wallaceburg (Ward 5), only incumbent Jeff Wesley has filed his papers.

Wallaceburg’s other councillor Sheldon Parsons, has stated he has intentions of running once again, but has not yet officially thrown his hat in the mix.

Wesley says he would be honoured to represent Wallaceburg once again.

“Wallaceburg is a wonderful community filled with wonderful people,” he said. “It has been an honour to stand up for Wallaceburg for the last four years.”

Wesley said he consulted with his number one advisor for the past 33 years – his wife Michelle – to help with his decision about running.

“We discussed the work that remains to be done and she said to me, if you do not tackle this work head on who will?”

Wesley said he’s going to focus on the Wallaceburg hospital, the downtown walking bridge, the Sydenham district pool, Wallaceburg’s drinking source, taxes and jobs moving forward.

Wesley was the top vote getter in the 2010 election with 2,725 votes, followed by Parsons at 1,379.

Travis Hooper, the branch manager at RBC in downtown Wallaceburg, finished third in the voting with 1254 votes, with Diane Daly (520), Bill Arends (126) and Matt Wood (116) rounding up the voting.

Election day is Oct. 27.
