Chatham-Kent accepting 2014 election nominations

voteNominations for this years municipal election in Chatham-Kent commenced January 2, 2014 until September 12, 2014.

Nominations are to be in the prescribed form and may be filed at the Civic Centre or any Municipal Centre in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. A Nomination must be signed by the Candidate and may be filed in person on any day during regular office hours.

A prescribed Nomination Filing Fee of $200.00 for the Head of Council and $100.00 for all other offices payable by cash, certified cheque or money order must accompany the Nomination Form. Until prospective Candidates file a Nomination, it is unlawful to raise campaign funds or incur campaign expenses.

Nomination papers may be obtained at the Civic Centre, 315 King St. W, Chatham or any Municipal Centre.

A person is entitled to be an elector in a local municipality if, he or she, on Voting Day:

  • is a Canadian citizen;
  • is at least 18 years old, and
  • resides in the local municipality, or is the owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse or same-sex partner of such owner or tenant, and
  • is not prohibited, by law, from voting

Offices to be Elected:

The Municipality is divided into 6 Wards. On Voting Day, qualified electors may vote for the Mayor and for the Councillor representative(s) for the Ward in which they reside.

Members will be elected for a 4-year term commencing December 1, 2014 until November 30, 2018 for the following offices.

  • One (1) to be elected at large

Councillors

  • Ward 1 – West Kent Number to be elected – 2
  • Ward 2 – South Kent Number to be elected – 3
  • Ward 3 – East Kent Number to be elected – 2
  • Ward 4 – North Kent Number to be elected – 2
  • Ward 5 – Wallaceburg Number to be elected – 2
  • Ward 6 – Chatham Number to be elected – 6

  • Geographic area consisting of North Kent (Ward 4) and Wallaceburg (Ward 5) and South Lambton Number to be elected – 1

  • Geographic area consisting of Chatham (Ward 6) Number to be elected – 2
