Two fatalities in 402 pileup

Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues the investigation into a multi-vehicle collision which took place around 8:30 a.m. on February 27, 2014. The collision happened in the west bound lanes of Highway 402, just west of Oil Heritage road, and resulted in that section of highway being closed until about 9:00 a.m. February 28, 2014.

Lambton OPP confirms that when responders arrived it was discovered that two people were deceased at the scene. Post-mortem examinations are scheduled for February 28, 2014 to determine the cause of death.

A total of 37 vehicles, made up of tractor trailers and passenger vehicles, were involved in this collision, which was one of three collisions taking place during a short period of time, on the stretch of Highway 402 located west of Oil Heritage Road and up to the area of Waterworks Road.

The investigation is continuing.

Lambton Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues the investigation into the two separate multi-vehicle collisions which took place on February 27, 2014 between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. west of Oil Heritage Road on Highway 402.

A six vehicle collision, took place on Highway 402 near Waterworks Road with no injuries being reported at this time, and the OPP investigation is on-going.

A four vehicle collision, took place on Highway 402 near Camlachie Road, with no injuries being reported at this time, and that OPP investigation also continues.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, OPP West Region Mobile Command Post, Wyoming and Camlachie Fire Services, Lambton Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Lambton Victim Services, Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO), local towing companies, Hull Bus Line, and Carillion Canada (highway maintenance) all responded to assist in this major event.

As well, the Sarnia truck centre at Reeces Corners and the Wyoming agriculture buildings were used and staffed by OPP and Victim Services as warming centres for over 30 persons evacuated from the collision. These locations were closed February 27, 2014 after the last person was assisted.
