The St. Clair Township Fire Department is looking for some new blood

The department is conducting a recruitment drive and they are seeking auxiliary firefighters at their six fire stations, including Becher and Port Lambton.

Walt Anderson, the fire chief for St. Clair Township, said some Wallaceburg residents could fit the bill.

“Preferably they should live in St. Clair Township but with some of our outlying stations like Becher, we do have some folks from the Wallaceburg and Chatham-Kent area that also volunteer for us,” he said. “We look at those on a case-by-case basis and when those people can be available.”

Anderson said they currently have a mixture of people on their department.

“We have some people that sign up that hope to do it as a career down the road or who are going to school,” he said. “We have a lot of others that do it just to give back to the community… that want to get involved with something and like the Fire Service. It’s a mixture of both.”

Anderson said once volunteers are on board they usually meet weekly, whether it is for a meeting or training.

“And then of course the calls that come in,” he said.

All applications must be returned along with a resume to the nearest St Clair Fire Station or the Administration Office located in the Emergency Services Building 392 Lyndoch St in Corunna.

Place them in an envelope marked “Firefighter Application” no later than 4 p.m. Friday May 2nd

Agility and aptitude testing is tentatively scheduled for 9am Saturday May 10th at their administration offices at 396 Lyndoch Street in Corunna.
