The Liberal candidate in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex said he was prepared for an election, but wasn’t expecting it so soon.

“I was surprised,” said Mike Radan. “We knew that it was a real possibility that the government could come down with this budget, so we’ve already been laying ground work, and prep work for a possible election. Yesterday when Andrea Horwath was kind of was missing in action, I thought maybe she would try to figure out some way to support it, but this mornings announcement was a bit of a surprise.”

Radan said regardless, he is ready to hit the ground running.

“After reading the budget yesterday, I thought it had some very good items in it,” he said. “It addressed the need for jobs, it addressed infrastructure, it helped those who are most vulnerable and was on track to balance the budget by 2017-2018. The team is spanning out looking for campaign offices right now, and we’ll go to the people and see what they think of the budget.”

Radan said he already had planned to attend a number of events anyway.

“We’re basically going to keep doing what we’ve been doing for the last month or two since I’ve been nominated, continue talking to people,” he said. “I have some events in Grand Bend, Strathroy on Monday and Wallaceburg on Tuesday to talk to people about the budget. We’re going to continue talking to people and giving them our plan.”

Radan said the Liberals commitment to jobs and agriculture are keys for the Wallaceburg area.

“Yesterday we saw a commitment for a $2.5 billion jobs and prosperity fund, I think that is very important to the Wallaceburg area, get people working,” he said. “Out of that $2.5 billion, there is $400,000 million specifically earmarked for agri-business, which I think will be a boost for the farming community, which is across our whole riding but specifically in the Wallaceburg area. Those two points are very important, that is something that the Wallaceburg area needs and I think the only way to get those is to vote for a Liberal government.”

The provincial election will take place on June 12th.
