Chatham-Kent council will vote on a number of lifecycle projects tonight (May 5) as they meet in regular session.

A number of these proposed projects would be taking place in Wallaceburg and Dresden.

Included on the list of items for building lifecycle projects, is a roof replacement for the Wallaceburg and District Museum.

Tom Skodak, manager of municipal assets, said the goal is to get this project completed this year.

Skodak said the project will be put out to tender, and will not be “an expensive fix” compared to other roof projects that have taken place on municipal buildings.

“Some projects cost $200,000 or $100,000… this one won’t be in that range,” he said.

The overall budget for buildings lifecylce is $1,768,500.

The Sydenham and District Pool is set to receive some upgrades.

A $260,000 project to install a new roof and HVAC system is being recommended to take place this year.

The project would be in partnership with the Lambton-Kent District School Board, with Chatham-Kent picking up half of the tab of $130,000. This total and project was approved after the Wallaceburg Pool Service Review back in November.

The outdoor Dresden pool is also set to get some work done.

Staff is recommending a $10,000 project to replace the filtration piping due to leaking, and a new heater at a cost of $5,000 is being recommended as well.

The baseball parks in Wallaceburg are scheduled to get some imporvements. Staff is recommending $9,600 to be allocated to fix the ball diamonds at Gordon, King George, Glen Mickle and Elgin parks. A staff report says the present playing surfaces on these ball diamonds needs to be built up to prevent water pooling and to allow for proper dragging.
