The potential of the downtown Dresden municipal office being moved to the Dresden Arena was discussed last night (May 5) at council.

However, this won’t be happening anytime soon, if at all.

A staff report for the 2014 building lifecycle projects listed the changes to the Dresden building under an appendix for future building lifecycle projects.

North Kent Coun. Joe Faas said this is a sensitive issue in Dresden.

“The BIA is not in favour of this,” Faas said, adding that others in the community have expressed to him that they are not supportive of this move either.

The report states the intention would be use the downtown building for a different purpose.

Thomas Kelly, general manager of infrastructure and engineering, said with this project listed under the “future” projects category, it would come back to council for discussion and approval separately, and not this year.

“We appreciate the sensitivity of the project,” Kelly said.

The list of 2014 projects were approved by council last night.

Bob Crawford, general manager of community development, said none of the items listed in the “future” projects were subject to those approvals.
