An online map shows how many sex offenders live in Ontario, and whereabouts they live.

Global News obtained a database of sex offenders by postal code last week, after battling in court for six years.

Ontario’s corrections ministry gave Global News the information after a Supreme Court ruling ordered them to do so.

The maps shows that in the community of Wallaceburg, with the postal code starting with N8A, that there are 28 registered sex offenders living in the area.

Dresden is included in a larger area with the postal code starting with N0P, which goes as far south as Wheatley and as far north as the Wilkesport area in St. Clair Township.

This area has 37 registered sex offenders.

In Chatham, with the postal code starting with N7M, there are 34 registered sex offenders.

With postal code starting with N7L, there are 36 registered sex offenders.

Throughout the six years that Global has been fighting for the information, the Attorney General’s office said releasing the postal codes could lead to the identification of the sex offenders the various communities, which had sparked violent attacks in the United States in the past.

However, this could never be proven in court.

Each postal code region on the Ontario-wide map is given one of five shades of blue, with a scale showing the sex offender rate to population over 100,000. The darkest shade of blue is “over 200” with the lightest shade of blue being a rate of 0-50.

Wallaceburg scored in the highest range, with 224.32 rate per 100,000.
