Dresden Kinsmen Pet and Hobby Parade 2014, see pics

The street was shut down in downtown Dresden Friday evening for the annual Pet and Hobby Parade.

Shawn Smith, vice president of the Dresden Kinsmen Club, said the event has been going on annually for a very long time.

“It has been going on about upwards to 90 years now, it’s one of the longest running parades,” he said. “It’s a free, fun day for the kids.”

Smith said the origin of the parade itself started during the depression.

“It was a way for kids and family to get out and do something,” he said. “Just a fun day for the kids.”

Smith said this years theme was “Down On The Farm” and at the end of the parade, they all gathered in Jackson Park in Dresden.

“We have free food and drinks for the kids, we’ve also got some inflatables, bouncy rides and wagon rides for the kids,” he said. “This is entirely funded by the Dresden Kinsmen Club, it’s one of the not-for-profit events that the Kinsmen do. We raise money every year to be able to pay for this, the Easter Egg Hunt and events as such.”
