Among all the items cooked and prepared at Sue’s Kitchen in Wallaceburg, the owner of the business Sue Misselbrook says her specialty is still baked goods.

“Everything is from scratch, my pastry is from scratch, it’s not store bought pie shells that I just fill,” Sue said. “I make my own dough, I make my own pie fillings, it’s not a can of cherry pie filling that you dump into a pie shell. I take frozen cherries, make my own filling. Same as apple and lemon meringue pie, I use real lemons, make my own filling. Everything is from scratch.”

Sue’s most popular desserts, include:

– Butter tarts

– Premium pies

– Creamy pies

– Fruit pies

– Brownies

– Tea biscuits

– Cheese cake

– Carrot cake

– Apple crisp

– Muffins

– Cookies

– Banana bread

– Lemon loaf

Sue said one of her bestsellers are her dessert trays.

“I appreciate a weeks notice, because it takes me a while to put together all the squares because depending on what size of tray you have, I offer three different sizes. There is a small, medium and large, 24 pieces, 48 pieces or 72 pieces.”

Sue added: “I have a really good assortment of squares on there. So for each 24-piece tray you would have six different types of squares, four of each. Then on a 72-piece, you have 18 different kinds of squares, four of each kind.”

Sue said her busiest time of year is Christmas time.

“At Christmas time I do the same thing, I do Christmas cookies, Christmas platters with assorted cookies, you can pick and choose what kinds you want, how many of each you want, you can mix it up with squares and cookies or just cookies.”

Sue said all her baked goods are served fresh.

“None of the baked goods are made ahead of time, they are made to order,” she said. “All of the baked goods are fresh, they are not frozen. If you ordered an apple pie on Monday for a Friday, it would be made on Friday morning.”

Sue said she will take special orders.

“If you don’t want nuts in there you have to let me know ahead of time, or if there is a certain kind of square that you don’t like and you don’t want me to put on there, just let me know,” she said. “I always appreciate a few days notice, but if you are in a pinch and you remember Friday morning that you have to bring a dessert for a barbecue on Sunday, give me a call and I’ll always see if I can accommodate.”
