East River Solutions hoping to double workforce to 10

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is pleased to welcome East River Solutions Ltd. to the community of Wallaceburg.

The company has a long and successful history. Formerly Helbin Machine, a family business located in a neighboring rural area, its growing customer base and increased need for larger more sophisticated equipment drove the company to undertake a strategic review of its future growth opportunities.

In July 2013, with a strong management team in place, East River Solutions Ltd. was formed and the search for a new location began. Careful assessment of various sites for suitability, infrastructure and support systems which could meet its project growth expectations determined Wallaceburg provided the necessary business case for final location selection.

“The efforts and support provided by Economic Development Services staff at the Municipality have been greatly appreciated,” said Derek McGivern Director, East River Solutions Ltd.. “Having one point of contact at the Economic Development office made the transition to the new location a smooth process. We are expecting long term growth and expect to double our employment base by the end of 2015 to ten employees. We needed a community that understands and responds to our needs.”

East River Solutions serves a diverse client base which includes: automotive, energy and military industries. 170 years of combined entrepreneurial, machining and industry experience with product and technical capabilities in custom high precision 3D turning and milling; high pressure casting die replacement, cavity components and aluminum casting trim dies.

“The Municipality of Chatham-Kent and, in particular, the community of Wallaceburg are proud to partner with forward-thinking businesses like East River Solutions Ltd.”, said Mayor Randy Hope. “This investment by East River Solutions strengthens the community and is a fantastic addition to the growing Precision Machining Supply Chain cluster in the community.”

“We will be looking to our educational institutions to develop the programming needed to ensure that the workforce is available to these growing companies,” said Hope. “Our manufacturing community has diversified into new markets and needs a workforce to match.”

Michael Burton, Director of Economic Development Services, added, “Wallaceburg was built by craftsman and was a world leader in the tool and die industry. Multinational consolidation strategies of the eighties and nineties decimated the industrial base, but the community and its residents are resilient and entrepreneurial. We expect to have more announcements in the future about further growth and employment opportunities”.
