It’s Sombra Days Weekend!

If you haven’t experienced it before, this weekend is one that many believe to be the highlight of the year for Sombra. Every year people come from near and far to experience the many activities, food and tournaments the park offers. The weekend will consist of fun activities for children, live bands, a 19+ dance, and co-ed baseball and volleyball tournaments.

Yesterday(July 2nd) a group of volunteers along with members from the Sombra Sports and Recreation team have made strong efforts to ensure that this years’ Sombra Days will be a success. Fencing has been put in place to block off designated spots for alcohol use.

For directions: take St. Clair Pkwy to Sombra until you reach Smith Street,turn and drive over the railroad tracks. The Park will be just ahead.

Here’s the schedule for today:

Friday

5 p.m.-Refreshment tent opens

6 p.m.-Co-ed two pitch tournament Contact Tony (519)-892-3965

8 p.m.- Dance: Must be 19 years or older. I.D required. No admittance after 11 pm. Sponsored by Molson’s.

9 p.m-1 a.m. “Town Crier” takes stage.

On Saturday a big turnout of community members participated in the park events which featured giant inflatables along with a horse-shoe and co-ed baseball tournament. During the day a local band took the Sombra Sports and Recreation park stage for public entertainment.

On Sunday, the weekend finished after a full day of  co-ed volleyball with music hosted by the Twain Buzzards. Inflatables and craft hour was also organized to help the children of the community get involved.

The weekend was filled with lots of warm weather and tons of community members and newcomers to make the Sombra Days 2014 experience successful.
