Another name has been added to the mix in the race to become Chatham-Kent’s mayor.

Chatham resident Reno Lachapelle, 39, has filed his papers and will be running for mayor in the upcoming municipal election.

“I’ve been out of Chatham-Kent for about 10 years and I just moved back recently,” he said. “I’ve always been interested in the downtown, historical part of downtown Chatham. My biggest thing is to bring in fresh blood… keep local businesses thriving in Chatham. Downtown needs a face-lift and to promote business and jobs. I know we’re a historical city and we need to promote that.”

Lachapelle said he works in construction and is an electrician. He added he has no experience in politics, but is “excited” about the prospect.

“It’s an exciting thing,” he said. “I just want to bring fresh blood in.”

Lachapelle said he has more ideas and will be sharing them at a later date.

Lachapelle joins John Willatt and Marjorie Crew as the only other candidates to file their papers.

Former candidate Ian McClarty has stated he will run again, and incumbent mayor Randy Hope stated he will be seeking a third term.

Election day is Oct. 27.
