Construction work on the Lou Stonehouse walking bridge in Wallaceburg is behind schedule.

The project is currently sitting in the stage where the drawings and specs for the project are being finalized.

Wallaceburg Coun. Jeff Wesley said some turnover of staff with Dillon Consulting is slowing the process.

“We continue to push for updates and to keep this project on schedule,” Wesley said. “The consultant has had some staffing issues, which they are working on and the project is currently at step number six… behind schedule.”

The schedule is about a month off track, as the project was anticipated to be in the tendered out at this point.

Earlier this year, many people in the community stepped up to the plate to offer services, materials and expertise to ensure the bridge stayed put.

During budget time this year, the Wallaceburg bridge had been on a list for possible divestment.
