A veteran politician is putting his name in the hat once again in North Kent.

Dresden resident Joe Faas has filed his papers and will be seeking re-election in Ward 4.

“I’ve been at it so long, it’s a part of my life,” Faas said. “I feel good and I feel I’m still able to contribute.”

Faas said the main thing he is focusing on is “representing the constituents” in his area and addressing concerns that they have.

He said infrastructure, economic development and the railway situation are issues he’ll be focusing on.

“We’ve kept up with the infrastructure in North Kent but it is always an on-going thing to make sure that the bridges and roads are maintained,” Faas said. “That seems to be an on-going issue with council. Especially at budget time, they start looking at ways to cut and I’ve never been a firm believer in the infrastructure cuts because that is something if you don’t maintain that, it comes back to haunt you down the road.”

Faas said: “Economic development is always a big issue as well, creating jobs. You look at retaining the employment that you have, the industry that you have, as well as trying to attract whatever you can as well. The railroad that is part of my mandate. I’d like to see it revitalized to make sure all avenues are explored before we give up on that.”

Faas has been on Chatham-Kent council for 11 years.

Faas joins the other incumbent in North Kent, Leon Leclair and newcomer Marc Reid as the candidates in Ward 4.

Election day is Oct. 27.
