Defiance Running Club launching improved youth program

The Defiance Running Club has partnered with Chatham-Kent Public Health and the United Way Youth Council to create a new and improved youth program, set to begin September 22.

The running/walking program meets the ministry requirements of the D.P.A. (daily physical activity), and it does so in a fun way, allowing children an opportunity to improve their health while helping their school compete for prizes.

Partnering with Chatham-Kent Public Health brings a much-needed nutritional element to the program, sending a message home to parents about eating healthy.

The Defiance Youth Program is a free program, targeting the 11,000 elementary school students in the county and several hundred more just outside the county.

Prizes are awarded for the top two students at each school as well as county champions at each grade level.

The top two schools will receive a Defiance Feast.

Although there are prizes involved, the main focus of the program is individual development, both mentally and physically.

This program is a win-win for teachers and students.

RBC is sponsoring a countywide program called the Defiance Active Initiative.

RBC is donating a penny for every kilometer achieved by anyone living or working in Chatham-Kent.

By going to our Defiance Active Initiative Facebook page, anyone in the county can log their runs/walks and help out a great cause while enjoying their regular activity.

Tell a friend, a neighbour, a co-worker, or a relative, if you are out walking/running, you need to log it or we lose it.

The Defiance Active Initiative starts Monday, September 1.
