With back-to-school taking place next week, officials with the Wallaceburg food bank told us they could use a few more supplies.

Items needed specifically, include: canned pasta , peanut butter, juice boxes, school snacks, jam, cheese whiz, cinnamon spread, soup, and sidekicks.

People are encouraged to stop by the Wallaceburg Salvation Army at 600 Lowe Ave.

The Dresden Food Bank is located at 29043 Community Road, inside the Community Church. Call them at 519-683-6541.

Coinciding with the need in the community, Community Living Wallaceburg is launching a food drive.

Community Living Wallaceburg employees and people supported by the Agency are looking to ‘can hunger’ with a fall food drive in support of the Salvation Army Food Bank. Canvassers will be collecting donations across Wallaceburg on the morning of Saturday, September 27.

Donated items should be placed in clearly marked bags and left outside the front door of people’s homes no later than 9 a.m.

“The Salvation Army provides many valuable services to Wallaceburg residents, and there is a tremendous need for its food bank, in particular,” stated Ron Laroche, coordinator, communications and fund development for Community Living Wallaceburg. “This is also an opportunity for Community Living Wallaceburg to give back to the community and to assist our friends and neighbours who need the support of the Salvation Army and its food bank.”

While all non-perishable food items are welcome, the following items are in greatest need: canned meats, cereals, oatmeal, dry pasta, pasta sauce, canned soups, school snacks, baby food and toiletries.

Businesses, schools and service clubs are also encouraged to get involved in the fall food drive. Canvassers and drivers are required on the morning of Saturday, September 27.

People interested in participating should contact Stephanie Flamenco, Community Living Wallaceburg’s Event Coordinator, at 519-627-0777, extension 2675 or by email at stephanie@getintocommunityliving.com.
