Dresden sports field project progressing nicely

Plans are underway to launch a major exterior improvement project at Lambton-Kent Composite School.

In early 2014, a collaborative of nine Dresden-based service organizations established a school-community partnership with the Lambton Kent District School Board. The intended purpose of this partnership was to affect improvements to the L.K.C.S. athletic field, which would benefit both the students of Lambton-Kent and members of the community at large.

With input from both the school and the public, a three-phased plan was established that would entail such improvements as:

– The installation of a sports field irrigation system;

– The resurfacing of all soccer fields;

– The installation of a 400 metre running track;

– The addition of a baseball diamond;

– The expansion of the community Trillium Trail; and,

– The construction of community washroom and storage facilities.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be just over $500,000. To date, funding commitments totalling $320,000 have been received from the L.K.D.S.B., the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and the various community user groups.

With continued effort, the partner organizations are hopeful to have sufficient funding in place to launch the first, and largest, phase of the project in the summer of 2015.

To close the remaining funding gap, the project committee is hosting a Ford Drive One 4 UR Community event on Saturday, September 13th.

The event is being sponsored by Progressive Ford, Dresden, and is being held at the Lambton-Kent Memorial Arena from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Members of the community are invited to take a test drive and, by doing so, support this most worthwhile project!
