Shooting in Leamington

More information from the OPP: A thirty-three year old Leamington man is in custody after he shot another male in the face and body several times with a pellet gun.

The incident occurred in the 100 block of Talbot Street East in Leamington just after 12:30 p.m. today.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers searched the area and found the suspect at a residence on Princess Street in Leamington, where he was arrested and taken into custody. The pellet gun was also located at that residence and seized.

The victim and suspect were known to each other. No one else was injured in the incident.

The suspect will be held for a bail hearing and several charges are pending.

Essex County OPP officers, the Essex County Emergency Response (ERT) team, the Essex County K-9 unit; as well as the Essex County OPP Crime Unit were involved in the search.

Police are asking members of the public who may have witnessed the incident, to contact the Leamington OPP Crime Unit at 519-326-2544.

Update from Police: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Leamington responded to a report of a shooting in Leamington just after 12:30 p.m. today.

Officers located the victim who was taken to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Essex County OPP officers and the Essex County K-9 unit we called in to search for the suspect who left the scene.

Area schools were put on hold and secure as a precaution.

One suspect has been arrested.

Update: Blackburn News is reporting that a man has been arrested in downtown Leamington. We’ll provide an update from the OPP once more information becomes available.

Police are searching for a suspect after a shooting this afternoon in Leamington.

Details are limited at the moment.

Reports say a heavy police presence remains in the downtown core of the city, which is located just outside of Chatham-Kent, as police look for the suspect or suspects.
