A former New Democratic Party provincial candidate is going to take a crack at municipal politics instead.
Dan Gelinas has filed his papers and will be running for one of two council spots in Ward 1 – West Kent.
Gelinas gathered 11,667 votes in the recent provincial election as the runner-up in Chatham-Kent-Essex behind PC candidate Rick Nicholls.
Here are all the candidates in Ward 1:

– Dan Gelinas
– Rudy Toews
Long-time Ward representative Brian Kings has stated he will not be seeking re-election this year in West Kent.
Election day is Oct. 27.
