C-K Hospice aiming for $250,000 by Thanksgiving

The Chatham-Kent Hospice has launched the “Thanks for Giving” Community Campaign to raise $250,000 by Thanksgiving.

The “Thanks for Giving” Community Campaign encourages people from across the municipality to learn more about the value of having a local residential hospice and to search their hearts, minds and wallets to financially support it.

Previously, Chatham-Kent residents have not had access to specialized end-of-life care in a residential hospice in our own community.

In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, volunteers will be reaching out to the community to ask them to donate.

A letter campaign has gone out to the community notifying them of this special fundraiser and giving them a window decal as an appreciation for their support of the hospice. Packages were included in community newspapers and copies can be picked up at municipal service centres.

After Thanksgiving, on Wednesday, October 15, from 7 a.m. – 9 a.m., the public is invited to drop in to the John D. Bradley Convention Centre, enjoy a continental breakfast and help celebrate the total amount raised during the Thanks for Giving Community Campaign.

The amount will be announced at 8:30 a.m.

“When we started quietly raising money earlier this year, we were cautious but optimistic,” says John Case, Chair, Chatham-Kent Hospice Capital Campaign Committee. “But people never fail to surprise me. The generosity that has already come from Chatham-Kent to support this cause is outstanding. Now we just need a final push from the rest of the community to make the Chatham-Kent Hospice a reality.”

“The Chatham-Kent Hospice will provide, free of charge, compassionate end-of-life care for people with life-limiting illness as well as support for families and friends who are suffering the loss of a loved one,” says Jennifer Wilson, Chair, Chatham-Kent Hospice Board of Directors. “The Thanks for Giving Community Campaign is an opportunity for everyone to be part of this very special initiative.”

The Chatham-Kent Hospice will be a 10-bed residence that will fill a growing need for end-of-life care in a home-like setting. Our Capital Campaign Goal is $5 million: $3 million to build and $2 million for an operational sustainability fund. By collaborating with St. Andrew’s Residence, and in cooperation with other service providers, we will offer an alternative to dying at home or in hospital.
