Update: Fatal fire on Langstaff Line

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. on October 12, 2014 emergency crews responded to a structure fire on Langstaff Line in Wallaceburg.

Upon arrival the residence was fully engulfed in flames.

The Chatham-Kent Fire Department battled the blaze and extinguished it.

During the investigation, a human body was found.

As a result, the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and Coroner’s Office were called to assist with the investigation.

The identity of the deceased will not be released at the request of the family.

Investigators have confirmed that the cause of death was fire related.

The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Damage was estimated at $100,000.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is continuing to assist the Ontario Fire Marshal and Coroner.
