A single vehicle crash this morning on Highway 40 has turned fatal.

Const. Janine Belanger with the Chatham-Kent OPP said a Chatham man has died following a crash this morning on Highway 40 at Electric Line.

“Police are still at the scene,” she said. “Roads are closed… and they are expected to remain closed for several hours, while they conduct the investigation.”

Belanger said the man was travelling northbound on Highway 40 and was the lone occupant in the vehicle.

“The driver left the roadway and came to rest against a tree,” Belanger said. “At this point, we don’t know the cause.”

She said the crash occurred just before 7 a.m.

The following sections of road are closed:

– Hwy. 40 between Bush Line and Robin Line

– Electric Line is closed between Hwy. 40 and Baldoon Road.

– Oldfield Line is closed between Hwy. 40 and Fraser Road.

Belanger said more information is set to be released this morning, and more information will be released afterwards when the investigation is complete and next-of-kin are notified.
