Update: Investigation continues into fatal crash

The Chatham-Kent OPP have released more information about the fatal crash earlier this morning on Highway 40.

On January 29, 2015, just before 7:00 a.m., Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Chatham-Kent Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a single vehicle near the intersection of Highway 40 and Electric Line.

“For reasons unknown at this time, a Hyundai Accent traveling northbound on Highway 40, left the roadway and crashed into a tree on the east side of the highway,” OPP officials stated.

The car was occupied by a lone male driver.

The 40 year old driver, from Chatham, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) team is at scene to assist with the investigation.

Highway 40 is expected to remain closed between Robin Line and Bush Line until noon today.
