Wallaceburg Rotary Club donates to C-K Hospice

wallaceburg rotary donates to hospice

The Rotary Club of Wallaceburg has donated $5,000 towards the Chatham-Kent Hospice, a project sponsored by the Chatham-Kent Rotary Clubs, and matched in part by a Rotary District 6380 Grant.

A residential hospice offers an alternative for people who are unable to or do not wish to die at home but do not require hospitalization.

The hospice cares for patients and their families and friends who are dealing with a terminal illness, providing comfort, support and pain management.

Patients are able to die with dignity, in a home-like setting.

The palliative care team includes nurses, personal support workers, religious and spiritual counselors and volunteers who provide a range of medical and support services around the clock.

Hospice services are free, culturally sensitive and promote a non-medicalized approach to death.

Chatham-Kent Hospice will be a 10 bed residence with additional space for bereavement counseling, resource library and meeting rooms with the flexibility to grow and play a role in developing a centre of learning for healthcare providers and the families of Chatham-Kent.

The Hospice is collaborating with St. Andrew’s Residence by sharing administrative resources to reduce operating costs.

Hospice direct services – both medical and non-medical will remain separate and completely focused on end-of-life care.

After a very successful Capital Campaign in 2014, construction will begin in the spring of 2015 with the goal of opening our doors by the end of 2015.
