Federal election race taking shape in L-K-M

The federal election ballot is starting to take shape in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.

Incumbent MP Bev Shipley announced his intention of running once again for the Progressive Conservative Party last March, when he was acclaimed as the candidate in L-K-M.

Walpole Island resident Rex Isaac was named as the NDP candidate recently as well.

Reports say Ken Filson has been “green lit” by the Liberals to run for the spot in L-K-M.

Wallaceburg’s Gary Martin, the webmaster for the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex Federal Association, told the Sydenham Current that a nomination meeting has not been called as of yet.

“So far, only one contestant we know of has been approved by the party and there possibly may be more, but will not know until the individual contestants make it public.”

Filson is married, a father of four, lives in Birr, north of London, and works for Libro Credit Union.

A familiar face is likely to be running once again for the Green Party, as Jim Johnston is set to file his papers.

“Yes, indeed, I will be running,” Johnston told the Sydenham Current. “Just finishing up the party paperwork.”

Here were the results from the federal election:

– Conservative – Bev Shipley – 29,546 votes – 57.7%

– New Democratic – Joe Hill – 12,299 votes – 24.0%

– Liberal – Gayle Stucke – 7,264 votes – 14.2%

– Green – Jim Johnston – 1,701 votes – 3.3%

– Christian Heritage – Mike Janssens – 413 votes – 0.8%

The election is currently scheduled to occur on October 19.
