Chatham-Kent trail maps available

The local trail system is growing larger and more widely known in 2015. Featuring over 41 unique trails from across Chatham-Kent, the new Chatham-Kent Trail Map is available beginning this week. Everyone is invited to pick up a copy at Chatham-Kent libraries, service and info centres, and arenas. The Trail Map will also be sent home with elementary school students across the municipality.

Trails featured in the book include municipal trails, as well as trails in Conservation Areas and Provincial Parks. The book features trail descriptions, information needed to gauge difficulty, parking information, and recommended user types for each trail.

Dianne Flook, President of the Chatham-Kent Trails Council, thinks this is a great way to share information about what’s available in our own backyard. “We are so pleased to see this trail map published,” she said. “The Chatham-Kent Trails Council has worked with the municipality to develop many beautiful trails in our communities. This book will get the word out, so more people can enjoy them.”

Kathryn Kielstra, Active Communities Coordinator with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, said, “Walking is the most popular form of physical activity. It is a free, gentle activity that almost everyone can do at any time. The trails in this book provide a great place for walking, as well as cycling, jogging, and other activities. I hope it will encourage more people to be more active more often.”

Funding for the design and printing of the book was provided by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s trails lifecycle budget and the Healthy Communities Partnership.

The Chatham-Kent Trail Map and the most up to date information about new trails can also be viewed and downloaded at www.chatham-kent.ca/trails.
