From the time you’re preparing for a fishing excursion, to cooking the fish you catch – Ed’s Bait in Wallaceburg has your answers.

Dave McCready, owner of the Wallaceburg shop, said they carry a large assortment of accessories that people may need.

“I’m fishing the EGO S2 Slider Net. They are very unique telescopic design so if you drop them off the boat they actually float, you can catch them. I have tried that several times,” Dave said.

“As much as I’m bass fishing, we have got a lot of tackle, a lot of rods and a net. We don’t use live bait when we are fishing. You can, a lot of guys do. In the tournament scene you aren’t allowed to use live bait so we use artificials.”

Having a good insulated pail is key if you are using minnows in the summer, Dave said.

“Anytime I take someone, like lets say I take my Mom out perch fishing. We are going to go out with an aerated minnow pail that is insulated, so you can keep the bait cool, especially in the summer. Frozen minnows is a good alternative if you don’t have live available. We have got preserved ones here just in case. We’ve got artificials as well.”

Dave said some people will buy the preserved stuff and freeze and salt them themselves.

“We are not allowed to sell salted minnows. We aren’t allowed to salt minnows in the commercial establishment but we can definitely give you tips on how to do it. Sometimes we do freeze some bait for that really dead-of-the-summer time when bait starts to get a little scarce.”

Another item that is valuable, especially this day in age, are dry boxes.

“Great thing if you are out in your boat to put your wallet, your phone, keys, stuff like that keeps it secure and dry,” Dave said.

Ed’s Bait also has various items to keep your gear protected.

“All of my rods when I go out in the boat are protected with rod gloves,” he said. “The Rod Glove brand specifically. We have got our own Anglers Choice branded gloves here. Reel gloves to protect your reels from scratches and stuff. Bait gloves to protect your rods and reels from the hooks on any bait that stay on it. We carry gloves, we carry reel cleaning products, lens and screen cleaner… great for fish finders and great for your glasses when you take them out.”

They also have an assortment of different fishing line options.

“If you need to stock up on line, we stock up on line we carry several different types of line. From mono to floor carbon, braid, few different types of braid, few different types of mono and a couple different types of floor carbon.”

Dave added: “Rod cases, we have a couple of rod holders, rod cases, two piece rod ties. Two piece rod tie is when you break a two piece rod apart and the rod ties will actually hold the two piece together, whether you are biking down the street or throw them in the trunk. Makes life easy.

Other items Ed’s Bait carries are: line cutters, fillet knives, glasses, stringers, hook removers, aerator stones, minnow nets for you minnow buckets, scales and fish batter.

“We’ve got Canadian Fisherman’s Breading and Batter Mix. It’s very good, I use a lot of it myself.”
