Dave McCready, owner of Ed’s Bait in Wallaceburg, had some advice for where to fish, what to use and what to fish for in the local area.

“If you’re going perch fishing from shore… anywhere out in Port Lambton,” he said.

“You’ve got the Coast Guard Dock, the bridge over the floodway area in Sombra. McDonald park can produce some pan fish that aren’t too bad.”

Dave said if you are looking to fish from a boat, the St. Clair River and Lake St. Clair are the place to be.

“St.Clair River walleye, Lake St.Clair for Walleye as well, using a trolling worm harness. Perch fishing in Mitchell’s Bay is starting to pick up again. Started in the spring from a long winter and early spring lull when they were absent.”

“Using light action rods, pickerel rigs, minnows. Fishing for walleye with a lot of bouncers, worm harness, in line weights and worm harnesses, all of which we stock in the store.”

Dave said they have got our ear to the ground through the tournament scene when it comes to bass fishing. He said he uses a variety of the products he makes in house to land bass in his boat.

“Anglers Choice baits, usually drop shot and tubes for smallmouth unless we get into somewhere around Rondeau Bay where we are flipping crayfish type baits. Heavy rods, heavy lines and heavy cover.”
