Juried Art Show opening at the Wallaceburg Museum

Juried Art Poster 2015Community art is set to go on display tonight at the opening of the 3rd annual Juried Art Show.

Mitchell Baeyens, assistant curator at the Wallaceburg and District Museum, many local artists will be showcasing their talents.

“It’s getting a bunch of artists together and having that opportunity to talk with other local artists and getting them together to support each other, and reflect the community,” Baeyens said.

“Most of them are from the local area. There are people from Chatham, Wallaceburg, Dresden, a couple out from the Tilbury area too. Mostly from south western Ontario, but mostly from our area here in Chatham-Kent.”

Baeyens said the display features all different forms of art.

“There are a couple of sculpture pieces, paintings, photography, and drawings,” he said.

The opening night of the show is tonight (June 26) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“There will be a cash bar available for the evening as well as some general snacks and drinks too. It is free admission, the snacks and punch bowl is free,” Baeyens said. The show will be on display until August 28.

“So it is on during WAMBO and a bunch of different events as well,” he said.

“You just come in, check out the artwork. There will be a voters box for people’s choice. With the Juried Art Show there are three awards that we give out. There is the Juried winner which is selected by our Jurors that we have come in to judge the art. We have people’s choice that is voted by the people. You have to come into the Museum to write down your vote for whatever piece that you like. The other one is young artist, so anyone who submits under the age of 18, is entered for that prize.”

Baeyens said there are about 36 pieces of art on display this year.

“There is lots to see,” he said. “There is actually a lot of new pieces this year. Sometimes we have a lot of repeats because you can submit the same piece again, but this year I think everything is new pieces so it should be a pretty interesting show.”
