Wallaceburg doctor will be lead physician at Hospice

The Board of Directors for Chatham-Kent Hospice recently announced the appointment of Dr. Robert Mayo as the lead physician for the new residential hospice.

“Dr. Mayo’s compassionate, friendly and generous nature makes him a great choice for Chatham-Kent Hospice. This is an important step towards establishing a strong, multi-disciplinary medical care team for our residential hospice.” said Jennifer Wilson – Chair, Chatham-Kent Hospice Board of Directors.

Dr. Mayo will provide leadership and medical expertise to ensure the quality of hospice medical care provided meets the highest standards. He will also represent Chatham-Kent Hospice at various palliative care and physician tables in the community.

Construction has begun on the 10 bed residential hospice that cares for patients and their families and friends who are dealing with a terminal illness, providing comfort, support and pain management in a home-like setting.

Building should be completed by the end of 2015. While the new residential hospice is being built, fundraising efforts are focusing on raising money to purchase the necessary furniture and equipment needed through the Hospice Hope Chest Campaign.
