Kent Agricultural Hall of Fame inductees announced

Five men, one couple, and one woman, who have provided a positive influence on agriculture in the Chatham-Kent community and beyond, will be inducted into the Kent Agricultural Hall of Fame on Tuesday, November 17th, 2015 at Country View Golf Course, beginning with a “Meet and Greet” at 11:30 a.m.

Rex Crawford, is a well-known farmer from the Dover area, who has been very involved in his community throughout his lifetime, and has also represented the residents of Chatham-Kent, Lambton and Middlesex while serving as a Member of the Federal Government, voting on issues as he believed his constituents wanted.

In the early 1960s, the team of Al DeWitte, Maurice Neutens and Terry Youlton was the driving force in what would become a long standing industry giant the modernization of agricultural fertilizer processing, mixing and delivery in Kent County, to become known as Kent County Fertilizers.

The honour will be posthumous for Professor Gerald Nelson Ruhnke, who was considered an ardent conservationist, and an International leader in soil science research, and who made an outstanding contribution to the theory and practice of soil conservation.

Dedicating their lives to agriculture, Bill and Diane Parks built their blueberry farm -“Parks Blueberries”, in a cornfield in the Bothwell area, and have been proud stewards of the land. They have implemented new technologies for irrigation and bird control and together, they worked tirelessly in the agricultural community on both marketing and promotion.

Alice Uher has been extensively involved with challenges to intensive livestock operation expansion, and has been active in arranging and presenting various presentations to various levels of government relating to Nutrient Management.
