The Wallaceburg Kinsmen are hoping to fill their grounds, located on Dufferin Avenue, on Saturday (Sept. 26) for their inaugural Pumpkinfest event.

Eric Hancock, the Wallaceburg Kinsmen president and the event organizer, said the Wallaceburg Kinsmen are hoping to connect rural and urban families in the community.

“We are trying to do a lot with the Pumpkinfest,” he said. “One of our goals is to try and strengthen the bond between urban and rural families. I haven’t lived in Wallaceburg for 40 years but I grew up in this area and I appreciate the importance and the value of our farmers and the agricultural community.”

Eric added: “The role they play, especially with the downturn in industry, I think their influence on the economy is even more profound. We are going to use this as a way to maybe strengthen that bond, get it reestablished and in future years to bring the farmers into this. Maybe a market on the day, that’s in the future.”

Eric said he has signed on for two years as chairman on the event.

“We hope that this becomes an annual event in the fall,” he said. “That families in Wallaceburg and surrounding area look forward to every year to coming out and having a great day.”

There is a lot going on at Pumpkinfest, have a look at the event poster below:
