Tartan girls claim two basketball crowns

Two girls basketball games were played in the WDSS gymnasium on Saturday night, and two championships were captured by the Wallaceburg Tartans.

The senior girls team defeated the St. Clair Colts 42-40 to claim the LKSSAA senior girls ‘AA’ basketball crown.

Ashleigh LaBlanc led the way for Wallaceburg with 17 points. Jamie Chauvin and Sawyer Fischer chipped in with eight points apiece.

The Tartans were trailing most of the game, although it was close all the way.

Wallaceburg entered the fourth quarter down 36-33.

The Tartans will now host Amherstburg General Amherst in the SWOSSAA ‘AA’ final on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The winner advances to the OFSAA ‘AA’ tournament being held in Kingsville from November 26 to 28.

The junior Tartans cruised to a 46-22 championship win over the John McGregor Panthers on Saturday, claiming the LKSSAA junior girls ‘AA’ crown.

Legacy Blackbird led the way with 12 points, while Megan McCarter chipped in with 11.

Wallaceburg will travel to Kingsville on Wednesday to compete in the SWOSSAA ‘AA’ championship.
