C-K Hospice eclipses Hope Chest campaign goal

The community has shown their generosity through their support of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Hope Chest Campaign raising $287,000.

The Hope Chest Campaign launched in April 2015 with the goal to raise $200,000 to offset the cost of furniture and equipment needed to set up the new residential hospice.

Donors were able to purchase a specific piece of equipment making it a very practical way to support the project.

“The cost to furnish and equip the hospice is close to $700,000 so every dollar we receive to offset this cost is greatly appreciated.” said Jodi Maroney, director of development, Chatham-Kent Hospice. “Once we are operational, we will continue to rely on the community’s support to be able to offer hospice palliative care services to our loved ones.”

Donations were received from individual donors as well as community organizations and groups, many who held fundraising events throughout the year.

“Our residential hospice is a result of a very successful collaboration from all members of the community and something we can all be proud of,” said Jennifer Wilson, chair of the Chatham-Kent Hospice board of directors. “In the spirit of collaboration and building a strong community together, I encourage people to consider supporting other local charities who make a difference in Chatham-Kent.”

Public tours of the new residential hospice will be offered to the community just before the doors in the spring of 2016.

In the meantime, the public is invited to visit our website (www.chathamkenthospice.com) to view our Virtual Hard Hat Tour video and get a sneak peek into the inside of the hospice.

The Chatham-Kent Hospice will be a 10-bed residential hospice that will care for patients and their families and friends dealing with a terminal illness. The hospice will provide comfort, support and pain management in a home-like setting.
