A former outfielder with the Toronto Blue Jays will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony.

Jesse Barfield will be in town on January 30 at the UAW hall in Wallaceburg for the annual event.

Barfield starred for the Jays in the 80s, and in 1985 helped Toronto reach the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

Playing alongside George Bell and Lloyd Moseby, the trio formed arguably one of the best all-around Major League Baseball outfields in the 80s.

Barfield was a career .256 hitter with 241 home runs, and 716 RBI in parts of 12 season with Toronto and the New York Yankees.

He won a Gold Glove in 1986 and 1987, and was known to have one of the best outfield arms in all of baseball.

Barfield replaces Kelly Gruber, another former Blue Jay, at the Wallaceburg event.

The former third baseman for the Jays, when they won back-to-back World Series championships in ’92 and ’93, had to back out due to other commitments.

Anyone interested in purchasing tickets to the event can do so from any Sports Hall of Fame member or at Kim Murray Insurance, located at 30 McNaughton Ave. Tickets cost $65.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.
