A Wallaceburg resident and entrepreneur is driven by his passion for helping people find their own financial freedom. Combined with his years of experience working as a real estate investor, Kevin Mitchell is sharing some of his knowledge in a brand new book he wrote called The Investor’s Approach To Home Ownership.

“It’s all about teaching people to take a different approach to home ownership,” Mitchell told the Sydenham Current.

“Typically people take an emotional approach to home ownership, where the book focuses a lot more on taking an investor’s approach. Treating your house as your biggest investment and focusing more on being able to make tens of thousands of dollars of tax free profits from your house, rather than buying exactly what you want.”

Mitchell, along with his business partner and brother Erik, have used the FENAR (finding, evaluating, negotiating, acquiring and renovating) approach over the last decade to purchase undervalued investment properties.

“Erik and I have really focused on duplexes, fourplexes, eight unit buildings and we use this FENAR system to really achieve financial freedom through real estate investing, Mitchell said.

“My wife Lindsay and myself bought a house a couple of years ago and I found myself using this FENAR system to buy our house. That was kind of when my light bulb moment was. I said ‘hey wait a second, people can use the FENAR system for their own properties.’ It really applies to personal residences. The key is, it really focuses on undervalued properties. The system allows you to go through every step of the process to again make good money from your personal residence.”

Mitchell, who was born and raised in Wallaceburg, said it took him about six weeks to write the book, dedicating three to four hours a day to writing it.

“Especially as a real estate investor, when we buy and sell properties it’s all taxable,” Mitchell said. “The cool part about the investors approach to home ownership is every dollar that people make from buying, fixing up and selling their house, is tax free profits.”

Mitchell said the book is available for purchase on Amazon.

For the month of March, the book is on sale for $0.99 for the kindle version and $2.97 for the hard copy.

“I just wanted to get the message out there, Mitchell said.

“The whole reason I wrote the book was because I am so passionate in people finding financial freedom. People taking their own retirement into their own hands. I feel like a list of people in their 20s, 30s, 40s and even 50s are missing out on a massive opportunity on tax free profits from their personal residence.”
