Update: More charges for shotgun wielding intruder

On April 26, 2016 shortly after 8:00 a.m. police responded to a report of man with a weapon inside a residence on Ninth Line.

The man entered the home and awoke the homeowners, known to him, while carrying a sawed-off shotgun.

An argument began resulting in the man grabbing an aluminum bat and shattering the glass patio doors.

No one was injured and the man fled the area in his Ford Escape in a dangerous manner almost striking one of the homeowners outside.

Around 9:20 a.m. police located the man and he was arrested.

The 49-year-old Blenheim man was charged with break and enter and held in custody.

Through investigation, police have since learned that the man was in a previous relationship with one of the homeowners as she disclosed an earlier incident where he damaged her vehicle.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at the man’s residence, which also included the vehicle he was last seen driving.

The barrel and wooden stock of the sawed-off shotgun were located and seized as evidence. Officers also located the aluminum baseball bat, ammunition, two pellet guns, a .22 calibre rifle and 303 rifle.

Police have now additionally charged the man with numerous weapon and firearm related charges along with two counts of mischief under $5000 and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing this morning.
