Suisham issues ‘classy’ statement

In typical Shaun Suisham fashion, the Wallaceburg native is handling his release from the Pittsburgh Steelers with nothing but class.

Suisham has issued the following statement:

The NFL team announced today they released Suisham, after he failed a physical.

“Unfortunately Shaun incurred a setback in his recovery from knee surgery that won’t allow him to compete in a timely manner,” said Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert.

“Shaun has played a significant role in our success during his time in Pittsburgh. He has been the consummate professional on the field and in our community. We wish he and his family all the best in the future.”

Suisham joined the Steelers in 2010 and converted 124-of-141 field goal attempts and each of his 173 extra point attempts through the 2014 season.

He spent the 2015 season on the team’s reserve/injured list.

Suisham’s replacement showed nothing but respect for Suisham after the news hit the wire.

Boswell assumed the Steelers kicking duties last year after Suisham got hurt.

  1. Absolutely no surprise to read the humble and gracious words of Shaun Suisham in this statement. It will be a great loss to the Steelers, especially in the “character and integrity” departments. I am hoping, and praying, that he recovers and can continue his career. Even if he doesn’t, though, this man has the right perspective on life and has his priorities in the right place.
