A new featured event will be included this year at the annual Canada festivities in Wallaceburg.

“We are calling it an old fashioned pie eating contest,” said Kristyna Roocroft, member of the Wallaceburg Fireworks Family Festival committee.

“It is sponsored entirely by the Big Chief Drive-In who did the Large Marge eating contest last year. So we are changing it up this year. Basically what it is, it’s no hands and face first into the pie. Whoever gets the pie pan clean first wins.”

Kristyna said the committee is looking for nominations in the community.

“We are looking for nominations of more like a local celebrity or someone from the community that would be interested,” she said.

“There is about 10 spots available. If they are interested they can contact us through our Facebook page. That is the easiest way to send us a message there or write on our Facebook wall. If selected, then they will need to be there that day.”

The pies will be sticking with the Canada theme as well.

“They are all going to be cherry pies,” she said.

The contest will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday July 1.

“It will be LIVE on the stage.”

Here is the event poster for the Wallaceburg Canada Day festivities, which is filled with activities from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.:
