With the Wallaceburg pool closed for the summer, there is another swimming option nearby in Dresden for the summer.

“As you may be aware, the Wallaceburg pool is closed this summer for renovations and I would like to encourage Wallaceburg residents to be aware of the programs that the Dresden pool has to offer this as an alternative,” said Olivia Noorenberghe, supervisor of the Dresden pool.

The pool in Dresden is located at 760 Tecumseh Street.

There are open swims daily from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and as well as night swims Monday, Wednesday Friday 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The cost is $1.50 for youth, $3 for adults and $6.75 for a family of up to five members.

Free swims will also be offered every Saturday and Sunday sponsored by CK Super Kids, as well as Wednesday nights sponsored by Tim Hortons.

“There are many other programs as well such as private swimming lessons, swim team, aquafit and adult swimming,” Noorenberghe said.

Wallaceburg pool update

The Wallaceburg Sydenham Pool will receive a few changes to make the facility more accessible, CK Rec officials stated.

The current observation rooms will be converted to an accessible washroom.

The pool has been closed since June 5.

The project is estimated to take three months with construction expected to be completed this summer.

These changes align with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and Lambton Kent District School Board commitments in regard to accessibility, CK Rec officials stated.

Funding for the renovations was provided under the Enabling Accessibility Fund, a federal grant that supports construction and renovations to improving physical accessibility for people with disabilities.

The total project cost is estimated at $76,000, with the grant fund contributing $49,725. The remaining costs will be split between the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and the Lambton-Kent District School Board.
