Streetlight conversion project underway in C-K

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent, in partnership with Entegrus Powerlines, has begun a large scale streetlight conversion project.

Approximately 10,000 Cobra-head style streetlights in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent will be converted to new energy efficient LED lights.

Entegrus officials say not only will this conversion save money on electricity costs, but it also provides a higher quality of light with a longer life span and minimizes monthly maintenance costs.

The upgrade will take place in 2 Phases, with Phase 1 projected to be completed by December 31st, 2016.

Phase 1 involves the conversion of 6,500 Streetlights in the following areas (Entegrus and Hydro One serviced territories are included): Chatham, Dresden, Mitchell’s Bay, Dover Centre, Thamesville, Blenheim, Grande Pointe, Wheatley, Rondeau, Erieau, Pain Court, Kent Bridge, Merlin, McKay’s Corners, Charing Cross and North Buxton.

Chatham-Kent communities and areas not listed here will be converted during Phase 2 of the project in 2017.

Residents of Chatham-Kent can use the streetlight map to view existing and converted streetlights.

Existing streetlights are indicated with a grey dot.

The dots on the map showing in green represent streetlights that have already been converted to LED.

Crews will be working throughout the rest of 2016 on this project, so please remember to slow down and drive carefully if you see street light crews at work.
