A machete wielding suspect was arrested in Sarnia this week, after threatening an off-duty officer.

Sarnia Police officials say on August 22, 2016, at approximately 10:40 am, an off duty Sarnia Police officer observed a lone male acting very suspiciously in the 700 block of Rosedale Avenue in the City of Sarnia.

The suspect was going up and down driveways looking into vehicles and at residences.

The off duty officer knew the suspect from prior dealings.

The off duty officer had already contacted the Sarnia Police to have an on duty officer attend to investigate the matter.

As the off duty officer confronted the suspect a second male appeared.

At first, the off duty officer was attempting to tell the second male to stand back but as the incident unfolded the second suspect pulled out a machete and threatened to “cut” the off duty officer.

By this time police cruisers arrived to the area and upon seeing this the man with the machete fled on his bicycle.

Fortunately, police were able to locate him a short distance away and placed him under arrest.

The 27 year old man that was going up and down the driveways was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and 3 counts of Breaching his Probation.

The 44 year old man with the machete was charged with Uttering Threats, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public and Assault with a Weapon.

Both were held for a bail hearing.
