The annual re-enactment along the Syne River, just outside of Wallaceburg, is ready to go for another year.

Cathy Tiffin, organizer of the Selkirk History Faire, says the event will take place on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., both days at MacDonald Park on St. Clair Parkway.

“We have the MĂ©tis and they have more like games and that is interesting for the people. It starts off when you have the MĂ©tis with Marie and Claude from the antique place and they have tomahawk throwing and they make up food for people to be able to taste what the MĂ©tis foods taste like,” Tiffin said.

“We have games. We have highland dancers. We have Irish dancers and we have got wonderful Native dancers that is going to be on at different times. That will be posted at the stage what time everything will be.”

Tiffin said they also have many highland games for the children, along with calligraphy, weaving and carpentry displays.

“Like tossing of the sheep, throwing the cannon balls,” she said. “If they do good they can pick up a toy and that is free. There is pitchin’ the stones. That’s for kids.”

Tiffin said also in attendance this year will be a black smith, musicians, Celtic players and Christine the fiddler, and Richard Worthington, who handles the cannon firing.

There will also be a Pandora boat, that was built back in the 1800’s, that will be on the water.

Tiffin said the 1812-era reenactors can answer questions from kids during the event

“There will be a food booth there for hot dogs and hamburgers, but if people come with their kids and they want to make up sandwiches and have a picnic, bring a blanket.”

Tiffin said she encourage people to not bring chairs, as it helps create an atmosphere similar to the 1800’s.

The event is free for anyone to attend.
