Everyone is invited to the celebration of Chatham-Kent’s Feature Act and to participate in “Are You Prepared for Anything?” an interactive discussion on what a person will need and should do in the event of a “disaster”.

This is the third TV show of the CK Community Forum for this calendar year. This televised show will be held Monday, October 17, 6:00 p.m., followed by a regular Council Meeting in the Municipal Council Chambers, Civic Centre, 315 King Street West, Chatham. This event is free of charge.

On October 17, volunteers from the Wallaceburg Canoe and Kayak Club, who have created an accessible program and hosts a series of free guided tours of our waterways will be showcased through the Feature Act Recognition Program. The Wallaceburg Canoe and Kayak Club was choosen because of its initiative of introducing and educating citizens to our local waterways, while encouraging exercise in the fresh outdoor air of the natural environments in our municipality.

Feature Act is a recognition program of the CK Community Leaders’ Cabinet in partnership with the Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce, and the Wallaceburg & District Chamber of Commerce. The Feature Act program showcases projects of Chatham-Kent that enhance the quality of life for business and citizens.

Councillor Trevor Thompson of Chatham-Kent Council will host with Whitney Burk of Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services and Steve Gardiner, Fire Chief of Goderich, talking about Emergency Preparedness.

This forum will include an interactive portion. Individuals will be able to participate in “Are You Ready” a game to determine if you have what it takes to survive the first 72 hours of an emergency. Citizens can download instructions on how to play. In October, links to the instructions will be found on the Chatham-Kent Facebook page and through COGECOTV’s CK Community Development Forum Facebook page.

Fire and Paramedic Chief Ken Stuebing states that “during a disaster is not the time to think about being prepared for an emergency. Citizens of Chatham-Kent are encouraged to take action to be prepared for anything in order to sustain their families for 72 hours. Prepare today for what can happen tomorrow.”
