Kings double up Lakers in season opener

The Dresden Kings rained on the Lakers parade in the opening game of Junior ‘C’ hockey season in Wallaceburg on Wednesday.

After skating to a 2-2 tie in the first period, the Kings exploded for six straight unanswered goals in the second period to capture full control of the game. The Lakers added two tallies in the third period, but it wasn’t enough, as the Kings finished with an 8-4 win.

Dillon Liberty led the way for Dresden with 2 goals and 2 assists, while Tyler Hotham, Alex Hall, Kyle Hachey, Kevin Ritzer, Eric Carter and newcomer and former Laker Kadin Ritchie all scored for Dresden. Logan Purbrick chipped in with three assists.

Josh Farrugia scored a pair for Wallaceburg, while Jake Cummings and Nolan Farr also scored.

Derion Ducedre made 19 saves in the win for Dresden, while Zach Lindley picked up the loss while making 18 saves on 23 shots in 32:14 minutes of ice time. Max Lozon stopped 13 of 16 shots in 27:46 minutes of relief for the Lakers.

A solid group of 530 people packed into Wallaceburg Memorial Arena for the game.

Wallaceburg resident Brayden Fields dropped the puck during the opening ceremonies of the contest.

The Kings are back in action of Friday night when they host Lakeshore at the Dresden Arena.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

Wallaceburg will host Blenheim on Wednesday in their next game. Their game starts a the usual 7:30 p.m.
