Emergency crews responded to an early morning blaze on Bruce Street in Wallaceburg on Thursday.

Details are scarce at the moment, but witnesses say they noticed the fire at around 3 a.m.

“It was a popping sound that woke me up. Big, popping sounds from the fire,” one witness told the Sydenham Current.

“When I looked at the house directly across the street, their front window was all flames. It took me a minute to realize I was looking at the reflection of the house on this side. A hydro pole caught fire after the fire crew had started to put out the fire on the house. The pole wasn’t on fire for long.”

The witness said a young family that lives beside the burning was evacuated.

“Their grandpa lives across the street. He ran over to help evacuate all the kids from the house next door,” the witness said.

Witnesses say there appears to be no injuries, although this has not been confirmed by fire officials.

Fire, police, EMS and hydro crews were all at the scene.

We’ll provide more information when it becomes available.
