Tree knocks down power lines in Wallaceburg

Hydro One officials are working on fixing the problem, after some power lines were knocked down by a tree in Wallaceburg.

A total of 55 customers are being impacted by the situation, Hydro One officials stated.

Power is expected to be restored by 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Wallaceburg firefighters are at the scene on Nelson Street extension, just past McKee Road, where a large tree along the banks of the Sydenham River has knocked down some power lines.

Witnesses at the scene said they heard a loud bang when the tree hit.

“I could hear it sizzling from around the corner,” the witness told the Sydenham Current.

A portion of Nelson Street extension is closed to traffic.

Sources say approximately 200 feet of line was knocked down.

The power flicked on and off at various locations across Wallaceburg when the incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m.

Hydro crews have been called to the scene.
