Update: $150,000 damage after Wallaceburg fire

The investigation is on-going after a morning blaze on Bruce Street in Wallaceburg.

A total of 22 firefighters from Wallaceburg, Tupperville and Chatham responded to a single floor ranch-style home at 323 Bruce St. at 2:50 a.m.

Ric Scharf, assistant fire chief, said the car was fully involved with fire upon arrival and flames were breaking through the roof of the carport.

The blaze eventually spread to the house.

Approximately $150,000 damage was caused, while $100,000 worth of property was saved.

Scharf said an ‘after the fire reassurance campaign’ will be launched by the Chatham-Kent Fire Department.

“Crews will canvass surrounding streets answering questions and providing fire safety messaging to residents,” he said in a press release.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

What sparked the blaze is still under investigation.
