Dresden Quilt Festival, rainy weekend forecast, Windsor floods

Let’s take a look at what is going on this upcoming weekend in the area:

– The annual Dresden Plate Quilt Festival is taking place this weekend at the Dresden Trinity Christian Centre. The quilt display and tour will be held Friday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event features dozens of quilts, antique to contemporary, quilts for sale, demonstrations and draws. You can also learn more about the ‘Barn Quilt Trail’. Festival passports are available both days. Visit Dresden shops for stamps and enter to win Dresden BIA Gift Certificates valued at $75, $50 & $25. Cost to take part in the event is $5. – P.A. Day activity at the Wallaceburg Library. Have you ever tried using Strawbees? Head over to the Library as they make and play with these wonderful creative straws. Registration is required and it is intended for children ages six and up. Register here or call 519-627-5292.

– Legends On Tour is coming to the Capitol Theatre in Chatham on Friday night. The show brings you some of the world’s most exciting performers live on stage. Accompanied by the Rockin’ Royals Band, this show will feature the most incredible Tributes to Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley, and a special guest performance by the sensational Tonettes. The show runs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased, here.

– ‘Take a Walk on the Spirit Side’ is being organized by Rob and Deb Simpson and Bruce and Carol Thompson. The event will take place at the Wallaceburg Museum, upstairs in the Jeanne Gordon Theatre on Saturday, October 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. The paranormal seminar will feature an investigation in the Museum and is geared towards helping people gain an understanding of what paranormal activity is and how to conduct your own investigation. The organizers will explain equipment, terminology, orbs, anomalies, electronic voice phenomenons, along with personal activities and stories. People are encouraged to bring their own camera and recorder. Payment is by donation only, and all proceeds will go to the Museum. The age restriction is 14.

– Light up the Night for Noelle is taking place at 7 p.m. at Canatara Park in Sarnia. Join the group for a night run/walk on the first Saturday in October. You can sign up now to run/walk or volunteer at: noellesgift.ca.

A special weather statement remains in place across Chatham-Kent, as significant rainfall continues across the region.

Intermittent showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to affect Chatham-Kent today and tonight. The showers may be heavy at times.

Additional rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are forecast by Saturday morning for much of the region.

The area is being monitored for a potential rainfall warning.

Caution is advised due to ponding of water on roads, and potentially fast flowing creeks.

The rain is being produced by a slow moving low pressure system over the Ohio Valley.

Today – Showers at times heavy. Risk of a thunderstorm this afternoon. Amount 10 to 20 mm. Wind east 30 km/h gusting to 50. High 18.

Tonight – Showers. Amount 5 to 10 mm. Wind east 20 km/h becoming light late this evening. Low 16.

Saturday, Oct. 1 – Cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers. Risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. High 20.

Saturday night – Cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers. Low 14.

Sunday, Oct. 2 – Cloudy with 60 percent chance of showers. High 19.

Sunday night – Cloudy periods with 40 percent chance of showers. Low 13.
